Tolls to Rise Sunday on Many NYC Bridges, Tunnels

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Drivers are paying more to use many New York City bridges and tunnels.

Tolls rose by 10 percent Sunday on the nine crossings controlled by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. They include the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge -- formerly the Triborough Bridge -- the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Queens Midtown and Brooklyn-Battery tunnels.

The toll amounts vary by crossing, type of vehicle and whether a driver has an E-ZPass or other discount. Cash rates are as high as $11 for passenger cars on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. That toll is imposed in only one direction.

Charges for Cars                 Cash              E-ZPass
Verrazano-Narrows              $11.00            $9.14
Major Crossings                    $5.50             $4.57
Minor Crossings                    $2.75             $1.71
Henry Hudson Bridge            $3.00             $2.09
