Obama Says Corzine Hasn't Shied Away from Tough Choices

HOLMDEL, N.J. (AP)  -- President Barack Obama is at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.

Obama is attending a fundraising event with Democratic donors before speaking at a rally for New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine's re-election campaign.

About 17,000 people are expected to attend. Some have waited for hours in the arts center amphitheater on a sultry, 85-degree afternoon. Others gathered to watch on a television screen outside.

Corzine is hoping the popular president can rescue his ailing re-election campaign.

A poll out Thursday shows the incumbent could use the help. The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll finds GOP challenger Chris Christie leading Corzine by 6 percentage points among registered voters.
