7-Year Hunt for Missing NJ Teen Ends in NYC

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP)  -- Family members are preparing to lay to rest a 17-year-old from New Jersey who vanished from a pool hall in 2002.

DNA tests showed Ben Maurer died the next day in New York City and was buried in the city's Potter's Field six weeks later.

The Piscataway High School student's cause of death has not been released and his family isn't commenting.

Police had used evidence from swabs to fingerprints to try to locate the boy for years.

But Detective Dave Carmen recently obtained a blood sample that was entered in the Center for Missing & Exploited Children's national database.

The sample came up a match in New York City.

Maurer will be buried at Resurrection Burial Park on Saturday.
