ALBANY, N.Y. (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- Medical staff at an upstate New York plastic surgery practice have admitted to giving unsuspecting patients a cheaper Botox substitute not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Five doctors, a nurse and an administrator from Albany-based Plastic Surgery Group, LLP pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court.
They face up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine when they're sentenced in December.
Prosecutors say about 150 patients were injected with Botulinum Toxin Topic A, which was misbranded under the name Botox Cosmetic.
The doctors are among 200 physicians nationwide who purchased the fake drug distributed by Toxin Research International, Inc., which the FDA shut down in 2004.
