Drag Racing Eyed in Bayside Crash; Boy Critically Injured
NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- An 11-year-old Queens boy remained hospitalized Thursday after he was critically injured in what witnesses say was a drag race gone bad.
Mona Rivera reports
The accident occurred on Francis Lewis Boulevard in the Bayside section of Queens late Wednesday night as four teens in two cars sped down the road, police said.
Witnesses say that the area has a reputation as a drag racing site and that accidents have occurred there in the past.
"When I heard the crash...my initial reaction was...here we go again...this is a major racing stretch of road," a witness told 1010 WINS.
The cars -- a BMW and a Lexus -- were seen speeding down the street when the BMW clipped the Lexus sending it into a parked car, witnesses tell 1010 WINS.
The 18-year-old driver of the BMW and two male passengers, ages 18 and 11, were all rushed to a local hospital.
The 11-year-old is said to be in critical condition.
The 16-year-old driver of the Lexus was given a breathalyzer at the scene and was being questioned by police.
