Man Shot Dead at South Street Seaport

NEW YORK (AP/1010WINS)  -- Police say a brawl and gunfire broke out at New York City's tourist-friendly South Street Seaport, and one man was shot dead during the early-morning fight.

Kathleen Maloney reports

Police say an argument escalated into bottle-throwing and gunshots shortly before 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the complex of shops, restaurants and maritime attractions in lower Manhattan. A 31-year-old man was shot in the head and died at the scene.

His name hasn't been released.

Police couldn't immediately say how many people were involved or what they were doing at the complex. Much of it closes at 9 p.m. on Fridays, though eateries and bars are open later.

Seaport managers didn't immediately return a telephone call.
