NEW YORK (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- A Brooklyn sidewalk is offering new perches for both pedestrians and birds.
Featuring barrels as seats with birdhouses above, the temporary art installation was unveiled Wednesday. It's part of a series of artworks the city Department of Transportation commissioned to make streets and sidewalks more inviting.
Made by artist Atom Cianfarani, the artwork is at Columbia and Halleck streets. As part of the same initiative, an abstract sculpture by Diego Medina was installed last week at East Tremont Avenue and Boston Road in the Bronx.
Both will remain for about 11 months.
The series ultimately will include three other artworks. The DOT offered nonprofit organizations $5,000 grants for the projects.
