NEW YORK (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- A serial rapist has struck for the fourth time in upper Manhattan since the beginning of August, police said Tuesday, this time attacking a 28-year-old woman as she slept inside her apartment.
Al Jones reports
The latest attack happened early Monday morning at an apartment near St. Nicholas Avenue and 147th Street in Hamilton Heights.
Police have been scouring the neighborhood, alerting women and posting a sketch of the suspect based on the victims' descriptions.
Police say the suspect pulled a knife on the woman around 1 a.m. and then sexually assaulted her before running away with her money and personal property.
Police say the suspect went up the fire escape and got into the seventh floor apartment through a bathroom window.
The incident has been linked to three other similar attacks in the area last month.
The suspect first struck on Aug. 1 about 2:45 a.m. at W. 148th Street and Broadway. A 59-year-old woman told police the suspect grabbed her and dragged her into an alleyway where he sexually assaulted her and robbed her at knifepoint.
On Aug 10 around 2 a.m., the suspect followed a 23-year-old woman into an elevator near West 144 Street and Convent Avenue where he sexually assaulted her and robbed her at knifepoint, police say.
In the third attack, a 69-year-old woman was raped around 4 a.m. on Aug. 18 as she returned to her apartment building at 765 Riverside Drive. The woman was on her way home from work, police said.
Video surveillance footage of the alleged rapist has also been released.
The New York City Police Department is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the crime. Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $2,000 reward.
