Students Return to the Classroom across New York City

NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS)  -- It's "Parents Liberation Day" across New York City Wednesday -- otherwise known as the first day of school.

John Montone reports

As parents breathe a collective sigh of relief more than a million children will return to their classrooms and say so long summer and good morning teacher.

But just how good of an education are those 1.1 million NYC schoolchildren getting? Not very good according to some published reports.

Some experts and former students tell The Daily News that New York City schools do not prepare students for college.

While the New York Times reports that thousands of New York City teachers received poor grades from the Department of Education.
