Rockland Teen Charged with Second Hate Crime
|
NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- An 18-year-old Montebello man has been charged with two bias attacks since April.
In the latest incident, a Hispanic youth was slightly injured with a BB gun Monday night in Airmont.
Ramapo police say suspect Michael Conklin wore a shirt with a swastika and a Ku Klux Klan symbol during the incident. Conklin was charged with assault as a hate crime.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe says he finds it disturbing that Conklin was arrested while out on bail for a previous hate crime charge.
In April, he was among five teens arrested on the same charge.
Authorities say they shouted "white power'' while beating up a Hispanic victim in Sloatsburg.
In both cases, the suspects and victims knew each other.
