Bronx Asst. Principal Gets DWI with Young Son in Car
NEW YORK (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- A New York City assistant school principal has been reassigned after being charged with driving drunk with her 10-month-old son in the backseat.
Alice Stockton-Rossini reports
Police say a motorist saw 41-year-old Melonie Lendor driving erratically on the New York State Thruway in Rockland County shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday. The motorist called police and forced Lendor to pull off the highway.
Lendor was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court on felony charges of driving while intoxicated and child endangerment. A court clerk says no attorney was listed on the record.
Police say Lendor was convicted of DWI in 2003 in the upstate town of Walden, where she lives. Lendor did not answer a call for comment at her home on Friday.
An education department spokeswoman says Lendor, who makes $99,000 a year at Intermediate School 217 in the Bronx, has been reassigned to an administrative building with full pay while they investigate.
