Staten Island 'Big Game Hunter' Claims Arsenal Is Legal
NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- A Staten Island man says there's nothing criminal about the arsenal confiscated from his Staten Island home.
Anthony Cortese says he's a "big game hunter.''
Police say they recovered eight shotguns, 10 rifles, a handgun, hundreds of bullets and fireworks. They also seized 41 armor-piercing, aluminum-tipped rounds that explode on impact.
Cortese is due back in court Wednesday. The charges include 43 counts of illegal weapon possession, and child endangerment. Police said several guns were stashed in his 11-year-old's bedroom closet. Cortese says his son is also a hunter.
Cortese said the weapons are valued at tens of thousands of dollars, and some are engraved family heirlooms.
