Report: Teacher Arrested for DWI in Fatal L.I. Hit & Run
|
MELVILLE, N.Y. (AP/1010 WINS) -- A Long Island woman -- who is reportedly a schoolteacher -- has been charged with DWI in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a Shirley man early Sunday morning.
Police arrested Jennifer Johnson on charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
But her mother says Johnson, who is reportedly a schoolteacher, told her she only had one beer four hours before the accident.
Grace Johnson says daughter Jennifer was doing a good deed and driving home a man who had had too much to drink.
Police say the 32-year-old was driving a truck on William Floyd Parkway early Sunday morning when she struck and killed Michael Lynch, 49, who was crossing the parkway at about 2:25 a.m.
Johnson drove away after she hit Lynch, but returned to the crash scene about 20 or 30 minutes later, police tell Newsday.
Lynch died on the parkway. Police say Johnson consented to a blood test. Results are pending.
