No Sign of Possible Plane Crash in Haverstraw

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. (1010 WINS/AP)  -- A ground search of wooded, mountainous terrain has found no crash site after several witnesses said they saw a plume of smoke coming from a small plane around Harriman State Park in Haverstraw.

No missing or overdue flights had been reported by 5 p.m. Tuesday, said Eileen Larrabee of the state parks department. However, searchers worked all day on foot and on all-terrain vehicles. She said trucks with headlights would be used after dark.

Helicopters were grounded by bad weather.

The reports of a falling plane came in Monday night. Jim Peters of the Federal Aviation Administration said some sort of aircraft went off the radar Monday night. But it may have just been flying low, or may have gone someplace else.
