Brooke Astor Award Goes to Brooklyn Nonprofit

NEW YORK (AP)  -- The founder of a New York City advocacy group is this year's recipient of the $10,000 Brooke Russell Astor Award.

Lucina Clarke is the founder and executive director of the nonprofit My Time, Inc. in Brooklyn. The group's mission is to provide parents of children with autism and developmental disabilities with a supportive environment.

She received the award in a ceremony Tuesday night.

The award was established by the late philanthropist's longtime friend David Rockefeller as an endowment to the New York Public Library, one of Astor's favorite charities. It is given in tribute to Astor's commitment to supporting the unsung heroes who improve the quality of life in New York City.

Astor died in 2007 at age 105.
