The program gives people with outstanding warrants for nonviolent offenses the chance to resolve their legal problems, usually without going to jail.

It begins Wednesday and continues through Saturday.

The site is Bethany Baptist Church. Cases will be processed there, then referred to a judge sitting at a location nearby.

Authorities say Essex County, which includes the city of Newark, has about 9,000 fugitives who qualify for the program.

During a similar operation in Camden a year ago, more than 2,200 people turned themselves in.
