MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- A Montclair State University student has been charged with witness tampering in connection with a small fire in a dormitory at the northern New Jersey school.
University spokeswoman Paula Maliandi said Thursday that Lauren Shinn, a 19-year-old Dumont resident, was freed after posting $25,000 bail.
The charge stems from a Sept. 23 fire on the sixth floor of Freeman Hall. It was one of three small fires reported in the same building in recent few weeks. Two were set in trash cans and another on a bulletin board.
Sprinklers quickly extinguished the fires and no one has been injured.
Maliandi said the investigation is continuing and police patrols have been increased.
A telephone listing for Shinn could not be found.
