While they waited for their heroes to arrive at City Hall Plaza, they watched the parade on a large screen, cheering for their favorites.
Children scooped up tickertape that blew into the plaza, and stuffed it into their pockets.
The fans included Jim Smith and his 10-year-old daughter, Patricia, bundled in Yankees coats and sweatshirts.
Smith is a retired New York City police officer living in Huntington, on Long Island. Smith worked at the parade in 1996. He says sitting is better.
Father and daughter are Derek Jeter fans. But Smith says the entire team worked together well.
Nicole Orrico and her daughter, Koranda, were busy taking pictures. The excited fifth grader was allowed to skip school for the experience of a lifetime.
Says her mom: "You have to mix life with learning.''
