Jerry Springer Guest Charged in Stamford Hotel Assault

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- An Alabama man has been charged with assaulting a fellow guest on "The Jerry Springer Show'' in a Connecticut hotel lobby.

Robert Pruitt of Lincoln, Ala., is charged with third-degree assault. Police say he punched a Houston man in the face at about
3:30 a.m. Monday in the lobby of the Hampton Inn & Suites in Stamford, the city where the show is taped.

It was not clear Monday whether Pruitt and the man who was punched were scheduled to appear on the same episode of the show. The other man's name was not immediately released.

The 30-year-old Pruitt was released on $500 bond. He's scheduled to appear in a Stamford court on Nov. 20.

Police say Pruitt suspected the alleged victim of stealing a wallet and some prescription drugs.

Attempts to reach Pruitt at the hotel were unsuccessful.
