8 Sickened in L.I. Restaurant Carbon Monoxide Leak

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- Nassau County police say eight people who fell ill from carbon monoxide poisoning at a Plainview restaurant have been taken to area hospitals with apparently non-life-threatening symptoms.

Police say Ayhan's Shish-Kebab Mediterranean Restaurant was evacuated Monday night after it was reported that multiple people at the eatery had passed out.

According to police, the gas in the restaurant was shut off. The source of the leak has not yet been determined.

Police say the eight who received hospital treatment were taken to Nassau University Medical Center, and North Shore University hospitals in Syosset and Plainview.

Three others also sustained carbon monoxide poisoning at the restaurant, but refused medical attention.
