Fed Meets with NJ Students Over School Dance Brawl

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- Officials in a central New Jersey town plan to discuss forming a community relations task force after a fight broke out at a high school dance.

A Justice Department "conciliator'' on Monday met with Franklin Township officials and high school students.

Reinaldo Rivera Jr. is trying to ease tensions in the wake of the incident at Franklin High School's homecoming dance last month.

Five police officers were injured and 12 students and adults were arrested in the skirmish that started when police tried to block students from re-entering.

The Somerset County prosecutor is investigating.

Mayor Brian Levine hopes the task force will help the township respond more quickly to unrest.
