SI Teen Struck on "Dangerous Stretch" Outside School
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Staten Island teenager is in a coma after being hit on a crosswalk outside her school Friday outside. Residents and parents are complaining that the road outside Tottenville High School is a dangerous stretch.
17 year old Janine Brawer was in "grave condition" at Staten Island University Hospital Saturday.
Steve Sandberg reports
She was hit while crossing the Luten Avenue outside the school at around 11:30am Friday. She was leaving at that time because of an early dismissal.
Police say a Nissan Maxima driven by another Tottenville student had stopped to let Miss Brawer cross, but that car was struck by another vehicle, also driven by a student from the High School. The impact pushed the first car forward, striking Miss Bawer.
Police acknowledged concerns about Luten Ave, a 3/4 mile stretch with no traffic lights, stop signs and a sole 30MPH speed limit sign.
No charges have been filed.
