Conn. Man Killed after Exiting Car on Route 95

STRATFORD, Conn. (AP)  -- A Bridgeport man was killed after exiting his car following a minor accident on Route 95 south.

State police said 56-year-old Stephen Smith got out of his car Saturday after he was in an accident that caused his car to face the wrong way in a travel lane.

Police said another car then slammed into Smith's disabled car head-on, pushing it into Smith and a passenger, who had also exited and was standing with Smith behind the car.

The 56-year-old Smith was killed. His passenger, Thomas Sparks, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital with what police said were non-life threatening injuries.

Three people in the car that hit Smith's car received minor injuries.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.
