Staten Island Street Renamed for Fallen NYPD Officer

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Fallen New York City police officer Russell Timoshenko has been honored with the renaming of a Staten Island street.

Durant Avenue, the street where Timoshenko had lived, will now be known as Detective Russel Timoshenko Way.

Alice Stockton-Rossini Reports

Police Commisioner Ray Kelly and other members of the NYPD joined the Timoshenko family for a ceremony Sunday afternoon that made the renaming official.

Timoshenko was shot twice in the face during a routine traffic stop in July of 2007. He died 5 days later.

The 23-year-old had served with the department for 18 months.

Timoshenko's partner, Officer Herman Yan, was also shot during the traffic stop. He survived with the help of his bullet-proof vest.

Dexter Bostic and Lee Woods were convicted in Timoshenko's murder.
