Lawsuit: NYC Boy Injured by 'Kite Fighting' Wire

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Relatives of a 12-year-old skateboarder are suing New York City after they say a glass-encrusted "kite fighting" wire slashed his throat outside their co-op complex.

The Queens lawsuit says Jared Kopeloff was hurt when a razor-sharp kite string floated over from nearby Flushing Meadows Park.

It says the city allowed kite fighting in the park. The city's law department called the accident "tragic" but declined to comment further.

The suit also says the co-op failed to remove the wire. Its management didn't immediately return messages requesting comment.

The sport was depicted in the book and movie "The Kite Runner."
