Northern NJ Schools' Dealings with Sports Firm Under Scrutiny
HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS) -- Nearly a year after the president of a sports gear company in Pennsylvania admitted engaging in fraud, federal authorities are investigating his dealings with dozens of northern New Jersey school districts.
The Record of Bergen County reported Tuesday that at least two districts in Bergen County have received subpoenas for documents regarding their dealings with Circle System Group of Easton, Pa.
The company supplied and refurbished athletic gear, including football helmets.
Its former president, David Drill, pleaded guilty in December 2008 to conspiracy to commit mail fraud.
He agreed to cooperate with investigators pursuing allegations that Circle lavished gifts on athletic directors, coaches and equipment managers and submitted inflated bills.
