Prosecutors: NJ Man Headed Heroin Trafficking Network

FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP/ 1010 WINS)  -- Bail has been set at $1.25 million for a New Jersey man accused of leading a Monmouth County-based heroin trafficking network.

County Prosecutor Luis Valentin said Wednesday that Detric Rawls of Matawan was among more than 20 people arrested this week in a takedown of the ring.

Authorities raided Rawls' apartment Monday, culminating a five-month investigation.

Valentin said 63 bricks of heroin, more than $28,000 in cash and a semiautomatic handgun were found in the apartment. An additional $258,000 in cash was found during a subsequent search of a storage unit Rawls leased in Marlboro.

He is being held at the Monmouth County Jail. Jail records did not specify if he had retained an attorney.
