NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) -- A Connecticut lawmaker says he's paid more than $390 in fines and his driver's license has been reinstated after he was pulled over by police a second time for illegally using a cell phone while driving.
Newtown police say they stopped Bethel state Rep. Jason Bartlett on Tuesday for using a hand-held cell phone and discovered his license was suspended last year because he didn't pay a ticket issued by Hartford police for the same infraction.
Connecticut allows motorists to use cell phones, but only with hands-free devices.
Bartlett says he didn't know his license was suspended, but admitted breaking the cell phone law.
Bartlett says he paid the Hartford ticket and got his license reinstated Tuesday, then bought a hands-free device. The Newtown case is pending.
