NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey woman who admitted punching a 22-month-old girl she was baby-sitting, causing the child's death, has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison.
Latoya Davis of East Orange must serve 85 percent of the term imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole. She pleaded guilty in October to aggravated manslaughter.
Prosecutors say the 23-year-old Davis was baby-sitting her boyfriend's child on Aug. 14, 2007, at his home in East Orange. Davis became angry when the child wouldn't sit still to have her hair brushed and punched her in the stomach three times.
The child suffered a lacerated liver and pancreas and was pronounced dead at a hospital later the same day.
