NEW YORK (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- Filmmaker Spike Lee joined parents of homicide victims at a Times Square rally against violence.
Lee said all New Yorkers should be concerned about bloodshed in their communities and he said part of the blame lies with the entertainment industry that glorifies violence.
Monday's rally in New York City was one of some two dozen anti-violence gatherings around the U.S. organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network.
The mother of one teenage victim said she blamed the parents of the killers.
Donna Hood-Greaves said "if you know you have a bad child, do something about it.''
Her 13-year-old son Kevin Miller was shot to death in Queens last month. A 16-year-old was arrested in the shooting.
They say shootings are destroying the lives of young and old. They cited the example of a 92-year-old Bronx woman who was killed by a random bullet in October as she sat watching television in her home.
Organizers say rallies are being held in 20 other cities including Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles.
