Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora Honored as Hometown Hero

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. (AP/ 1010 WINS)  -- Bon Jovi lead guitarist Richie Sambora loves his New Jersey hometown, and it's loving him back.

On Tuesday, Woodbridge residents and public officials gathered to name a street in his honor because of his philanthropy.

The 50-year-old has launched a fundraising effort called, "You Can Go Home,'' to give back to the community. The program benefits Woodbridge teen Kelly Mahon, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor two years ago.

Sambora also financed the new weight room at his alma mater, Woodbridge High School. It's being named in honor of Sambora's father, who died of cancer this year.

The street leading to the school is now Richie Sambora Way.

Sambora says he's never taken his success for granted.
