ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- New Jersey authorities say a man who was acquitted on a murder charge earlier this year has been charged with trying to kill a witness who testified against him.
Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said 27-year-old Asher Conn showed up Monday night at the Elizabeth home of the witness, brandished a gun and attempted to shoot him, but the gun misfired. Elizabeth police officers responding to a 911 call quickly arrested Conn.
Conn had been charged in the November 2006 shooting death of 18-year-old Maurice Barkley of Roselle, but was ultimately acquitted. This came after several witnesses recanted previous statements and another refused to testify.
Conn is being held on $850,000 bail. Authorities did not know if he had retained a lawyer.
