A Great Run

NEW YORK (1010WINS)  -- After 50 years, Bob Sheppard, better known as "the Voice of Yankee Stadium," has decided to hang up his microphone, according to an interview published on yankees.com today.

"Time has passed me by, I think. I had a good run for it," said Sheppard in the Yankees.com interview."I enjoyed doing what I did. I don't think, at my age, I'm going to suddenly regain the stamina that is really needed if you do the job and do it well."

Now 99 years old, Sheppard has worked for the Yankees for more than half a century beginning his career on April 17, 1951. His legentary voice has accompanied around 4,500 games.
