Bronx Girl Shot by Stray Bullet Leaves Hospital

NEW YORK (AP)  -- A Bronx teenager shot in the head by a stray bullet has been released from a hospital after doctors said she may recover completely.

Lincoln Hospital said Friday that Vada Vasquez has been released and taken to a rehabilitation center.

The 15-year-old Bronx girl was shot Nov. 16 as she walked home from school in the Morrisania section. A 16-year-old boy and four other teens and young men have been arrested on attempted murder charges.

Authorities said the bullet was aimed at a 19-year-old man who was targeted because of a jailhouse fight.

Doctors say Vada arrived at Lincoln Hospital with bone fragments lodged in her temple. After a week, she said her first word since the shooting: "Mom.''
