NEW YORK (1010WINS) -- New York City joins with over 300 cities across the world Thursday to welcome in the summer season with free live musical celebrations in all 5 boroughs.
Its called Make Music New York and its a day of concerts and musical performances that knows no limits. That's because most of them will take place on sidewalks and other public places. Professionals and amateurs alike will entertain New Yorkers with music from all genres and styles. Everything from underground hip-hop to gospel to Brazilian to good old rock n roll. In other words, a little something for everyone!
Best of all, each borough has a variety of locations to check out local musical talent on display.
In Manhattan, you can enjoy classical in Midtown, jazz in the East Village, soul in East Harlem, folk in Tribeca, and rock in the Financial District.

It's the first time that New York is hosting such an event. Make Music began 25 years ago in France. Since then, it has spread to over 100 nations.
Organizers say they hope Make Music New York becomes an annual event.
