NEW YORK -- Some gay activists are questioning a proposal by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn -- saying that requiring security cameras at nightclub entrances will keep some people away from the clubs.
Activist Allen Roskoff said that club-goers who are still in the closet would have their privacy invaded by the cameras.
Christopher Dunn, associate legal director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, says the city must institute strict privacy protections.
Quinn defended her proposal. She says club-goers already have to prove their age and don't have an expectation of privacy. She also says cameras in public have become commonplace.
