NYC Considers 'Social Host' Law

NEW YORK -- New York City is considering a local law to hold parents responsible for teen drinking in their homes.

The City Counciil's Public Safety Committee is drafting the so-called "Social Host'' law.

The Long Beach City Council in Nassau County just approved a similar bill -- holding parents responsible for underage drinking in their homes. The law makes it a crime to serve alcohol to minors who are not family members.

Thee New York City law could carry penalties of $350 in fines and anywhere to 15 days to a year in jail -- depending if violating the new law is considered a violation of a misdemeanor.
