City Council May Change School's Cell Phone Policy

NEW YORK -- New York City's controversial ban of cell phones in schools might be changed. The City Council is expected to vote Wednesday on new legislation which would prevent schools from taking away the phones as long as they are only used while the student is going to and from school.

It would then be up to the Department of Education to set up a system to store the phones during the school day.

Education officials say the phones are a distraction in the classroom. However, parents argue they are vital to their childrens safety.
