Wounded, Neglected Dog Found on Long Island
|
BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island animal shelter is looking for the owner of a badly neglected dog that was left on a stranger's doorstep.
Elizabeth Allison says she has no idea who tethered the suffering dog to her stoop in East Patchogue this week.
The dog - a female Staffordshire terrier and Labrador retriever mix - was suffering from sores. Her paws were raw and swollen, and her fur was missing in many places.
Allison took the year-and-a-half-old dog to the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter. A veterinarian says the dog, nicknamed Belle, should recover in two to four months.
A veterinary technician at the shelter says the dog was probably neglected for several months. The shelter is asking anyone with information about Belle's owner to call the shelter.
