Ben Mevorach



Ben Mevorach is the Director of News & Programming of 1010 WINS, the nation’s leading all-news station. His career in print and broadcast spans more than 20 years and has afforded him access at every level of media, business, and government.

Mr. Mevorach began his career in Boston as a magazine writer and editor for the international publication, The Library Scene. He moved to radio in 1984, working for legendary sportscaster Curt Gowdy. In 1990, he moved to New York to help launch Long Island's first local network news/talk show, Good Morning Long Island. Two years later, Mr. Mevorach joined the most listened to radio station in America, 1010 WINS.

As a reporter, Mr. Mevorach has traveled the world. During his career, he has covered four presidential races, the 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, the 1996 crash of TWA Flight 800, the September 11, 2001 terror attack on the World Trade Center, the 2003 war in Iraq, and other major news events across the country.

His work has resulted in more than thirty awards for excellence in reporting, including the Associated Press and the broadcast industry's highest honor - the national Edward R. Murrow. He has been honored with a Murrow three times in his career: for his coverage of the crash of TWA Flight 800, the 9/11 terror attacks, and for his coverage of the 2003 US-Iraq war.

In 2008, Mr. Mevorach was selected as an Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient. Past recipients include six Presidents of the United States, Nobel Prize winners, professional athletes, and nationally recognized leaders of industry. Some previous Medalists include: U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, President Bill Clinton, General Colin Powell, Lee Iacocca, and Walter Cronkite

Mr. Mevorach serves on the advisory boards at Hofstra University and St. John’s University and is an adjunct professor at the State University College at Old Westbury. Away from his work, Ben has dedicated his life to helping children. He is actively involved in a number of charitable causes and his work on behalf of non-profit organizations has been formally recognized by, among others, the Association of Children with Down Syndrome, The Long Island Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Parents of Autistic Children, and the Songs of Love Foundation.
