NEW YORK -- Recently, there have been a number of important studies looking at Vitamin D and calcium supplements and how they may help prevent cancer.
All of these reports were based on the finding of a study that was initially designed to see if Vitamin D help fight osteoporosis, but researchers also found they reduced cancer incidence.
Researchers from Johns Hopkins found that the supplements seemed to affect all types of cancer.
There is one problem…the numbers were very small, so it’s difficult to draw any definite conclusions regarding recommendations or direct impact, but there was about a 60% reduction in cancers overall across the board, again, a small population.
So what’s my take?
Obviously, more studies will be done but it’s clear that Vitamin D will help fight cancer to at least a small extent, and you get the added advantage of strengthening bones.
As the studies move along, I will keep you informed.
