Mom Crashes Car Into Tree on L.I., Daughter Dies



SHIRLEY, N.Y. (AP)  -- A 23-year-old Long Island woman was killed in a crash Friday when her mother lost control of the car she was riding in, Suffolk County Police said.

Police say the accident happened on the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley at 6:20 a.m. 

Jamie Lawless was in the front passenger seat. She was pronounced dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.

Her mother, 47-year-old Gloria Lawless, is being treated at the hospital. Police don't know why she lost control of her car and hit a tree.
