Something Smells in the Bronx

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Something smells in the Bronx...and on Friday a team of  odor experts will descend on the borough to track down the smell permeating Hunts Point.

1010 WINS AUDIO: Al Jones reports

Many residents have grown accustomed to the odors blowing past their homes, but finally relief is on the way.

The city's Department of Environmental Protection hired a consulting firm that will begin surveying residents about the nagging stench.

The DEP says the purpose of the survey is to identify odors prevalent in the area and establish their source. To solve this mystery, they need the help of residents who they've asked to take note of when, where and what they smell.

Some residents say part of the problem is garbage sitting out too long. Others say the source of the problem is the industry in the area located down the street from homes.

Many are concerned that whatever is in the air may pose health risks.
